October 17, 2003 – Columbus, Ohio – The number one reason patients visit a doctor is to treat bone and joint disorders, including osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, lower back pain spinal disorders. In addition, one of every seven American report a musculoskeletal impairment and more than three million hospitalizations are due to musculoskeletal conditions and injuries annually.
Bones, and the joints that create function and movement, are connected by muscle and ligaments. Their state of health and how they enable a person to lead an active and healthy life is what physicians at the Ohio Orthopedic Center of Excellence aim to improve.
In support of Bone and Joint Decade National Awareness Week (October 12-21, 2003), physicians at the Center recognize that spreading awareness is a key step to lowering the burden of disease and improving the quality of life for those who are challenged by bone and joint conditions. Patients are encouraged to learn more about prevention activity and treatment options on the significant burden of bone and joint diseases among Americans.
